A TIME FOR ACTION

HOW IT MIGHT BE DONE

First of all, I’m just a regular old guy, a citizen, with no legal training, and no experience in politics. I won’t have any position of leadership in a projects of this kind.

What I do have is an idea.

Congress has failed us as a representative government of the people, by the people and for the people. It is instead, a non-representative government run by a selected few, supported in turn by each of the two major political parties, the Democrats and Republicans. Surely, the odd independent can get elected to various levels of government, but won’t have the powerful party backing or supports as lock-step loyalists do.

The solution might be for enough citizens to get together and DEMAND a top-down and bottom-up evaluation of our political systems, parties and especially finances. I’m convinced “campaign contribution” has come to mean “bribery” as the primary influence.

The framework is already well established, RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) investigations look for the links between money and influence used to commit bribery or other crimes.

How?

I think what must be done is an investigation into the corrosive effects of large amounts of corporate and special interest money in political election campaigns, and how best to regulate the outsized influences of a few large donors.

It must be a DEMAND by the American voters to correct the voting system to insure a fair and equitable election for a truly representative government free from manipulation of voting districts, free from well-known and often used disenfranchisement techniques to deny minority access to the polls, and make the voting process as streamlined and easy as possible.
